What to look for in a breeder?
No matter which breeder you decide to purchase a puppy from make sure you do your home work and purchase a puppy from a reputable breeder. Make sure the parents have passed necessary health clearances before being bred. This is a must in order to prevent any future health problems in your new puppy! This does not mean the parents are 'vet checked'
Eyes need to be checked and CERF or SHOR clear by an Ophthalmologist to make sure they do not have any inherited cataracts or other eye diseases. Second they need to have their hips checked through OFA with a 'Good' or 'Excellent' rating. This is to make sure the parents are free of hip dysplasia prior to being bred.
These testings are inexpensive and are very easy to have done. There is no excuse not to have these testing done! If the breeder tells you these health clearances have been done, ask for proof! If a breeder is unable to give you OFA and CERF numbers or show you any paper work that proves these health clearances have been done, then run away. Any reputable breeder has these health clearances done on any dogs that will be bred. Except nothing less!
